Sold Out !!!!!

That is this year’s Banquet headline. Thanks to you members and new members, we were able to fill the Kiva room at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. With a little creativity and having close neighbors at the banquet tables, we were able to squeeze 450 conservationists for the evening.

Dinner at Ventana Canyon is second to none when it comes to banquet meals. I have attended many banquets throughout Arizona and Ventana Canyon always manages to provide the best meal, including desert!

Pulling off a successful banquet means having dedicated board members. Fourteen board members who are committed to the Arizona Chapter and its mission for the well being of southern Arizona. It is a pleasure to work and spend the weekend with your chapter board. The friendships we have created, including spouses and volunteers has this organization moving in the right direction.

Many hours are spent gathering auction items that are appealing to everyone. In this economy, asking for free or donated items and hunts has been very difficult. Once again Tod Molesworth put together a great auction evening.

We have built a team of board members who run the same committee over and over who have become very efficient, that make the president’s job a lot smoother. I am so grateful for the friends I have to work with in this Chapter.

The money we raised at the banquet will be put to very good use. We are looking at building and funding a new water catchment in 34A. Look for the story next year of DJ and his dad Tom Oldham on their hunt with Jim Shockey. Look for the opening of the Boy Scouts Archery range, and look for the Junior Deer Camp and Junior Jack Kamp and the Junior Dove hunt.

Next year we will take another 8 junior hunters to Texas. Look for a bigger and better Jim Shockey Golf Tournament in February of 2012. You will see a save the date twice, once in September and another in early January by mail. So please plan on attending this great weekend event. You should come to the meet and greet Saturday night, and then join us on the golf course on Sunday. Jim is a great guy to talk to and you have a chance of buying some interesting hunting equipment and other items. The money raised at this event goes to taking some of our countries bravest men and women who serve in our armed forces on a hunt! This can be your way of Thanking and re-paying someone who has defended our rights and the freedom we love in the USA!

I mentioned at the top of this article the food at Ventana Canyon, the meet and greet menu is fabulous too!
Thanks for your support and membership, I hope to see you at one of our camps or the next meeting or event!!
